Maroochy River Adventures!
The Summer Sailing Season commences at Maroochy at the end of January. A range of Racing and Cruising activities has been scheduled both in the Maroochy River (sailing from our Clubhouse on Chambers Island) and off-shore in Mooloolabah Bay (sailing from the Marina).

Maroochy Junior sailors can go exploring the Maroochy River over the coming weeks as part of the Club's summer Adventure Sails program.

Held every second Sunday morning from 9.30am, Adventure Sails will involve our Youth sailing to a pre-determined location in the Maroochy River (always accompanied by more experienced sailors and our Safety Boats). While some may sail their Optimist dinghies, you can also join in and sail in one of the Club Pacers, either as skipper or crew.

The exact 'adventure' each fortnight will only be revealed on the day! It could depend on the weather, the tide conditions, involve skimming over (or sailing in between!) the sandbars, maybe landing on a hidden beach ..... and bringing back some treasure! Hopefully we'll have opportunities to explore the lower sections of the river around Picnic Point/Cotton Tree and Twin Waters, as well as the middle reaches between the Sunshine Motorway Bridge and the Bli Bli Bridge.

In our summer Adventure Sails, our young sailors will be able to develop their sailing skills and confidence in a non-competitive environment and experience the diversity of our great river whilst having fun sailing with each other.

Adventure Sails will operate fortnightly on Sundays as an alternate to the Maroochy Off-shore Program during our Club's summertime program.

First scheduled Adventure Sail is on Sunday 5 February, with rigging from 9.30am.

COMMODORE'S URGENT NEWSLETTER - 24 January
A NEWSLASH from Commodore Gard, including Cancellation of Sailing this coming Sunday, 29 January, because of Weather conditions expected over the weekend.
ADVICE TO MEMBERS
A live link to Marine Services Queensland's Recreational Boating and Fishing Guide has been placed in our Right margin. MSC Members are advised that they need to be familiar with several sections of this guide - particularly the requirements regarding the wearing of Life Jackets (PFD's) and the operation of powered craft (in our case Rescue/Patrol boats). Different requirements exist for use in the sheltered waters of our River Course and on our Off-Shore Course at Mooloolaba. Mooloolaba Entrance has recently been gazetted by MSQ as a Coastal Bar necessitating the wearing of appropriate Life Jackets.
RENOVATION UPDATE
Contractors have been in and removed all the asbestos sheeting in the Canteen and adjacent areas. Now for the re-building!!!! Also it seems that we have GOOD NEWS regarding the Roofing over the Canteen area.
WORKING BEE REPORT - 22 January
A large group of sailors came to the Maroochy Clubhouse on Sunday morning - not to sail, but to ready the building for some important work to be carried out this coming week, the removal of the old asbestos sheeting in the Canteen and Committee Room areas. All equipment was removed from these rooms and relocated to other areas of the Clubhouse so the specialized workers have easy access to carry out their task. Once the old sheeting is removed and the rooms cleaned, we can continue the refurbishment of the Canteen area and the installation of new equipment. While workers were stripping and relocating the equipment, Kerrie and Chelsea cooked up a great feed of sausages on the outdoor Barbecue. Thanks to all who turned up to give a hand. ###### Next Sunday (29 January) we plan to be back on the water - Training for the Novice Sailors in the Morning, and the first two heats of the Summer Long Course Series in the Afternoon - NOW CANCELLED
NATIONAL TITLE RESULTS LINK - Opti Results now up
Check the National Title Results of particular interest to Maroochy Sailors. While many Championships have now concluded, others are still underway including the National Optimist Dinghy Championships where some Maroochy Youth sailors are testing their skills.
